I CAN DO THIS!

3 marathons and counting…

SWEET! June 16, 2009

You know those days where you wish you could just start the day over?

I had one today.

I woke up WAY too early (4:53am) after having one too many beers last night (3), and had a slight headache. Nevertheless, I got up and started my day…fed and walked the dog, had about 28 ounces of coffee, then some yogurt…and by 7am, was ready for a nap.

So I started over.

I got in bed and took a nap, then got back up and did it again. Put on a pot of coffee (only 14 ounces this time), walked Mako, and said hello to the day.

Lately, I’ve been setting out on my runs without a plan. But I have a current goal in mind to run a sub-30 5K while I’m still 30. Today, I got on the treadmill (with my new ipod) and warmed up at a really slow pace, then started running intervals at increasing speeds till my recovery pace was 9:31, about 9 seconds faster than the pace I’d need to average to hit my 30:00 goal for a 5K.

So guess what – it worked!

I ran 3.1 miles and finished at 29:42.

I know it doesn’t really count since the treadmill is easier than running outside, but it’s a step in the right direction. Next I just have to accomplish this outdoors, and then find a 5K to run before August 13.

On a side note, I tried a new cereal. And what is UP with these monster-sized clusters?! Ew.

And on a TOTALLY unrelated note, Mako is acting so WEIRD while I’m typing this.

He’s crawling around in weird places he doesn’t usually go, and now he’s sitting inside a bookshelf.

How much was the iPod? Like it? I like the clipping ability.
